Christian Louboutin
Christian Louboutin’s first-ever shoe was inspired by none other than Princess Diana!
The designer saw a picture of the princess in front of the Taj Mahal in 1992 and said “She was looking at her feet and I thought she looked so sad… it would be nice to have something to make her smile when she looked at her feet.” Thus, the iconic ‘Love’ flats were invented and even kickstarted Christian Louboutin’s career. So, in a way, Lady Di is responsible for one of our favourite designer shoe brands!
Christian Dior
To those who knew about her significance in the fashion world, having an iconic designer bag named after her comes as no surprise.
It all started when former French First Lady, Bernadette Chirac commissioned Christian Dior to design a handbag to gift to the princess in 1994. Although the handbag had no official name, it was affectionately known as ‘Chouchou’ which means favourite in French. However, when Princess Diana was regularly photographed in it, it was quickly renamed to the ‘Lady Dior’ bag that we now know and love.
Princess Diana's Salvatore Ferragamo Bags
Princess Diana loved Salvatore Ferragamo. In fact, she owned over 20 variations of Ferragamo’s classic chain-strap bag. Hence, the Italian brand decided to name the collection ‘Lady D’ after her passing.
Chanel
Like many other fashionistas, Princess Diana loved everything about Chanel.
However, she later admitted that albeit one of her favourite brands, Chanel's classic interlocking C’s painfully reminded her of Charles and Camilla’s affair. So, after the divorce, she wasn’t seen wearing Chanel handbags.
Princess Diana & Versace
Princess Diana was photographed multiple times wearing Versace in the ’90s. What’s more, she even posed on the magazine cover of Harper’s Bazaar rocking a royal blue dress.
Gianni Versace was well acquainted with some of the world’s best celebrities and fashionistas - Lady Di was no exception. In fact, when she found out about the unfortunate murder of the iconic designer and founder of the brand, she said “I am devastated by the loss of a great and talented man”. Unfortunately, just one month later, Princess Diana got into an accident and passed away thereafter.
