8 Tips To Care For Your Luxury Watch

If cared for properly, a luxury watch can be passed down as heirlooms from generation to generation. This is not difficult as luxury watches are built to last, but with special care, your watch can be in optimal condition and maintain its value.

1. Clean Your Watch Regularly

Clean your watch as often as possible. Take a clean cloth and wipe down the crystal, case and strap to remove any dirt or dust. If your watch is waterproof, you can also soak it in water every few months to loosen the dirt.

2. Take It In For A Service

While regular cleaning ensures that your watch is in good condition, servicing it guarantees that your watch is in optimal condition. A mechanical watch should be serviced every two years, while a quartz watch can be serviced every three years. However, quartz watch batteries should be changed as soon as they’re dead because this could cause a possible leakage and seriously damage your watch.

3. Avoid Chemical Contact

Avoid exposing your watch to harsh chemicals, including soap, detergents, and perfumes as they can damage your watch strap and case.

4. Handle With Care

When you wear a luxury watch that costs thousands, you want to treat it with great care. When you’re partaking in messy or unruly activities that may cause damage to your watch, remove it immediately. Taking off your watch during certain activities reduces your risk of creating scratches and damaging the glass, case, strap and internal components.

5. Store Your Watch Properly

When you’re not wearing your luxury watch, it’s best to keep it neatly in storage. Do not set the watch on its side nor face down as it may scratch the crystal or even damage the crown. Instead, you can store it in the original box it came in or purchase a luxury watch storage case along with your other watches.

6. Avoid Prolonged Sun Exposure

Try limiting direct sunlight exposure to your watch as it causes straps to fade. Moreover, extreme heat can reduce battery life.

7. Avoid Strong Magnets Around Your Watch

Placing your watch close to a magnet may affect its accuracy and sometimes stop the watch completely. While this can be fixed, it’s a nuisance.

8. Watches & Water

Most modern watches are built with water resistance but be mindful of your watch’s limits. Certain watches may be able to withstand over 1,000 metres while others may only go 50 metres, so be careful when going under.
