In 2018, quadcopter drones carried leather and jewel-encrusted handbags from D&G’s Fall-Winter collection instead of human models.
To ensure the technology operated optimally, the audience was asked to turn off Wi-Fi on their phones, as well as any personal hotspots.
However, once all the fabulous designer handbags were displayed down the runway, models returned to the catwalk to show off D&G’s clothing collection. Guess there's no replacing human beings after all!
Selfie Moment
In today’s time, everything is about likes and followers and the Italian brand knows this very well. So for Milan’s 2015 fashion week, D&G allowed their models to strut the catwalk while snapping selfies.
Not only was this interesting, it was also an excellent marketing campaign.
The attending press, models and the brand’s marketing team took to social media with these images while promoting hashtags; #DGselfie, #ItaliaIsLove and #dolcegabbana. It’s no surprise that the collection went viral instantly.
D&G's 2015 fall ready-to-wear collection was a celebration of family and motherhood. The runway featured 11 mothers on stage with their children including the heavily pregnant Italian model, Bianca Balti. Naturally, this required a full nursery backstage.
What's more, their prints were based on Domenico's nieces and nephew’s drawings.
D&G is The First Luxury House to Offer Plus Size
Most high-fashion brands only offer clothing for women with ‘ideal’ body types. In the spirit of inclusivity and body positivity, Dolce & Gabbana is one of the first high-fashion brands to offer plus-size options. Since their pre-Fall 2019 collection, they now offer sizes in EU 52 + 54; US sizes 16 + 18 and UK 20 + 22.
The Italian brand is leading the luxury industry and encouraging inclusivity of all body types.
Dolce & Gabbana Boycotts... Itself?
Like many other celebrities, Melania Trump built a long time love for the Italian brand. However, when Dolce & Gabbana personally dressed the former first lady in 2017, the media perceived it as support for her husband’s politics. Soon after, disgruntled consumers organised a physical and social media boycott.
Unbothered as ever, D&G retaliated by creating their own “#Boycott Dolce & Gabbana” T-shirts.
Where To Buy D&G in South Africa

We provide authentic pre-owned designer items in pristine condition and at more affordable prices. Visit one of our three brick-and-mortar stores or shop online and get complimentary door-to-door delivery.
