The high-fashion luxury brand, Dolce & Gabbana was founded in 1985, the namesake of two Italian fashion designers: Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Although the luxury brand is now known as one of the best in the world, there is still so much we do not know about the highly coveted brand.

Keep reading for fun facts about D&G that you may not know about.

It Started At A Nightclub

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana met each other in a nightclub in Milan, Italy only 5 years before starting their company. At the time, they were both working for the fashion designer Giorgio Correggiari. They spent a couple of years as colleagues, dreaming about opening their own line.

Eventually, in 1982, they took the plunge by quitting their jobs and established a designer consulting studio for freelance fashion designing. Three years later, in 1985, they built up enough capital to start the world-famous luxury brand that we now know as Dolce & Gabbana.

Partners in Fashion

They were involved in an open relationship. Following their success, they lived in a 19th-century villa in Milan and owned several properties on the French Riviera. However, they eventually ended their long-term relationship in the early 2000s; of course, they continued to work together long after their relationship’s demise.

They Have Their Own Single

In 1996, Dolce & Gabbana recorded their own single. The song has intoned the words "D&G is love" over a techno beat. Although the song was a success, the pair did not make any other music thereafter.

Dolce Started Designing at 6 Years Old

Because his father was a well-known tailor, Domenico Dolce grew up surrounded by clothing and sewing machines. At the ripe age of six, he designed and crafted his first pair of trousers.

The Mother of All Runways

Their 2015 fall ready-to-wear collection was a celebration of family and motherhood. There were 11 mothers on stage with their children which required a full nursery set up backstage. On the runway, three models walked with their own children and an Italian model, Bianca Balti, walked down the runway with a huge bun in the oven.

Trendsetters

Trends have a short lifespan. You buy it today but soon after, it’s out of fashion. This is why the designers are more fixated on creating fashionable items that encapsulate their specific brand identity rather than hopping on the bandwagon.

What’s more, Gabbana stated that everything he and Dolce have created has been rooted in love.

Dolce & Gabbana Football

Dolce & Gabbana have been the official sponsor and designer of the Italian National Football Team and the Milano Thunder Italian Boxing Team. They have also worked with other famous football teams such as A.C. Milan and Chelsea Football Club.

The Secret To Success

According to Dolce and Gabbana, the ingredients to success are love and respect.

Interestingly enough, they hardly agree on anything! However, the designers report that their arguments often give birth to new ideas and concepts nurturing the brand’s success and prosperity.
