Our Favourite Fashion Films

Fashion doesn’t only lie in what you wear, it is a way of life. Join us as we look at some of our fashion films.

The House of Gucci

The House of Gucci is undoubtedly one of the most talked-about movies of the year. The biographical crime drama features some of Hollywood’s A-list celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, and Salma Hayek, to name a few. Based on the 2001 book, The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour by journalist Sara Gray. The film tells a story of Patrizia Reggiani’s climb to fame by marrying into the Gucci family, building the Gucci empire and eventually leading to betrayal and murder.

Valentino: The Last Emperor

The Last Emperor was the curtain closing on the career of Valentino Garavani. Although the talented fashion designer sold his company ‘Valentino’ in 1998, he continued to design for the company up until 2008 -- the very year the movie was released. This documentary tells the interesting story of Valentino’s life and explores the larger themes affecting the fashion business. It also touches on the impact Valentino's long-time lover and partner, Giancarlo Giammetti, made on the business and Valentino’s own life.

Sex and The City

You can’t talk about fashionable movies without at least mentioning Sex and The City. In fact, the sitcom is renowned for inventing the first designer ‘it’ bag, which of course is the Fendi Baguette. Not only that, the film and series ooze with designer handbags, shoes and other luxurious attire.

The sitcom starts with Carrie Bradshaw, played by actress Sarah Jessica Parker, a self-described sexual anthropologist and writer for a newspaper column about modern sex life. She draws inspiration from her own experiences with men as well as her close friends, who participate actively in the Manhattan dating scene as they search for the perfect partner.

P.S: They're doing a reboot of the sitcom in December 2021!

Legally Blonde

Legally Blonde is a classic chick flick, starring Reese Witherspoon who plays Elle Woods, a wealthy sorority girl who is often mistaken for a ‘dumb blonde’. When her boyfriend breaks up with her, she follows him into Harvard Law school in hopes that she will prove him wrong and win him back.

We've included this film in our list because you can't think pink without 'Legally Blonde' coming to mind. Elle Woods has an opulent sense of style, in fact, in 'Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde', she sports 63 different pairs of fabulous hand-made Jimmy Choos.
