A Grand Entrance
It’s expected that the Italian duo chose an iconic location like Venice, as the city is known for architecture, unique canals, and opulence. Inspired By Venice
For Dolce & Gabbana, Venice is more than just a fabulous location. Many of the Alta Moda pieces are reminiscent of the city’s historical architecture. The brightly coloured kaleidoscopic confections were a tribute to the city’s exquisite Venetian glassmaking craft. While the luxurious sequence pieces with sculptural gold elements and embellished carnival masks are perfectly designed to go with the Piazzetta San Marco’s opulence and historical architecture.
“For us, Venice represents the perfect harmony of opposites that attract: it is romantic and sensual, melancholic and joyful, rational and visionary, luminous and nocturnal, sacred and profane, dark and golden,” Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana stated. “It is the city of Casanova, of the Carnival, of the historic regatta on the Grand Canal.”
