Fun Facts About Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani is one of the most remarkable and successful Italian designers in the entire world, yet he keeps his personal life private. Keep reading to learn more about Armani's life and achievements.

He Banned Skinny Models On His Runways

In 2006, Armani was the first designer to forbid ‘size zero’ models in his fashion shows. He even went as far as to encourage the rest of the fashion industry to follow suit in order to reduce the rate of eating disorders in young women. Armani uses women with ‘normal’ weights and shapes and will not work with women below a BMI of 18. This was motivated by the death of 22-year-old Uruguayan model, Luisel Ramos, who starved for 3 months.

He Is A Perfectionist

Giorgio Armani is a self-described perfectionist, even arguing in a Vogue interview that he was "10 times" worse than Tom Ford, another stickler for the details.

Giorgio Armani Has Multiple Brands

Giorgio Armani has several companies that benefit from his name, including Giorgio Armani Privé, Giorgio Armani, Armani Collezioni, Emporio Armani, Armani Jeans, Armani Junior, and Armani Exchange.

That is R138.8 billion!

The First To Showcase Live on The Internet

Despite his age, Giorgio Armani continues to be an innovator at the forefront of the fashion industry. Back in 2007, Armani decided to show one of his collections live online. Although it is quite often these days, Giorgio Armani was certainly the first in the Haute Couture world.

Fashion Wasn’t His First Choice

Giorgio Armani’s career did not start with clothes, but with bandages. He first studied medicine and completed military service. However, rumor has it that he could not stand the sight of blood and changed careers.

He Is Responsible For A Lot Of Italian Clothing

Giorgio is a fashion pioneer in Italy. He has designed clothes for the police, knitted clothes for taxi drivers and he has even designed the cover of the Pope's book of gospels. A known lover of sports, Giorgio Armani has designed clothing for popular football clubs and even the Olympics.

The first pieces he designed under his own name were a series of leather bomber jackets in 1970, a piece that is still relevant in today’s fashion trends.

He Prefers Timeless Fashion Over Trends

Armani does not think collections should be created every season. In fact, he does not see the need for fast fashion. However, he gives his fans what they want by creating new designs–since it’s what is expected of him.
