Fun Facts About Fendi

Fendi is an LVMH-owned company renowned for its Italian aesthetic, bold shades, exotic materials and unique textures. Keep reading to learn more about Fendi fashion.

Fendi Originally Sold Furs & Leather Goods Only

Founded in Rome in 1925 by husband-and-wife duo, Edoardo and Adele Fendi. The brand was the first handbag and fur store in the now cosmopolitan Via del Plebiscito avenue in Rome. Although the brand is now a worldwide fashion empire, Fendi only specialised in furs and leather goods.

Karl Lagerfeld Skyrocketed The Brand To Fame

In 1947, Edoardo and Adele’s five daughters ran the family business. The Fendi daughters brought in a youthful spirit and expanded the company to include women’s clothing and accessories in addition to their fur and leather goods.

However, Fendi only truly became successful once Karl Lagerfeld joined the brand in 1965. Lagerfeld used the famous Fendi fur on their accessories, ready-to-wear designs, and anywhere else he could think of! This breathed new life into fur and fashion while making it more accessible to the brand’s average customer.

FF = Fun Fur

The late Lagerfeld worked for Fendi for 54 years and is responsible for the iconic double F logo that’s still used in today’s Fendi designs.

The late Lagerfeld ran the company for 54 years and created 70,000 original sketches. His most memorable design is the double F logo that is now regarded as Fendi’s signature. According to the brand, FF stands for ‘Fun Fur’.

The First-Ever ‘It’ Bag

In the 90’s Silvia Venturini Fendi famously designed the ‘Baguette’ bag which quickly became famous after it was seen on the arm of Sex and The City’s Carrie Bradshaw. Since it launched in 1997, over a thousand versions of the Baguette handbag have been produced and is still considered a collector’s item. In fact, the Baguette was amongst the first to introduce waiting lists for bags and other designer items.

FUN FACT: The bag is called the Baguette because it’s designed to be placed directly under the arm, the same way one may carry a long loaf of bread such as the French baguette loaf.

A Fashion Show That’s Out of This World

Fendi is the first fashion brand to stage a runway on the Great Wall of China.

They presented their Spring/Summer 2008 collection, featuring 88 models, walking 88 metres along with one of the great wonders of the world. The entire fashion extravaganza was strategically planned like this as ‘8’ is a lucky number in Chinese culture.

FUN FACT: Because the Great Wall of China is visible from the moon, Fendi became the first fashion show that could be seen from outer space!

Fendi Revived Logomania

Fendi revived logomania with their double F Reloaded party in 2018. The brand hosted a secret event in an underground tunnel in London to release the new Fendi logo. This collection incorporated the logo print onto exclusive pieces.
